Born into a musically inclined family, Ruth follows in both her parent’s footsteps. Ranging from traditional music to hip-hop, Ruth has quickly become one of the rising stars of African music in Toronto. Ruth joins forces with Waleed Kush, an influential musician in the African music community known for his striking vocals, his innovative bass technique and his speed and precision on percussion.
People Project incorporates a mixture of funk, hip-hop, reggae and folk with an emphasis on heavy afro-brazilian rhythms. The project brings together collaborators from around the world with songs in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Song lyrics portray important world issues.
Through modern roots reggae music, Friendlyness along with his seven-piece band the Human Rights join forces to sing about equality and freedom.
Evolving consistently for the past eight years, Nine Mile has gone from a duo to a seven-piece band. Their latest album incorporates country, rock, soul and reggae and has guest appearances from Xavier Rudd, Matt York and Burke Carrole.

From a family of musicians and writers and with his own mix of poetry and pop/rock, Mandippal has made quite a mark in the Ontario singer/songwriter scene. Having had the opportunity to work with distinguished artists and having been featured on many television programs, magazines and radio programs, Mandippal’s performance will not disappoint.
Born and raised in Toronto, Dylan taught himself to play the guitar and eventually to write his own songs. Dylan uses his relaxed, positive spirit and his music to help make the world a better place. Using personal experiences in his music, Dylan’s sound is rare in the music industry today.
Lynn Harrison
Classically trained singer/songwriter Monique Barry has a dynamic must-hear vocal range. Incorporating folk, lounge, rock, classical, ambient soundscaping, and techno pop, she is highly ambitious when it comes to integrating music styles.
Professor of Music at York University, Sundar was born in Ooty, a small village in the tea-plantation hills of South India. Following his love for music, Sundar has had the pleasure of travelling the world studying and performing jazz and world music. His unique sound has captivated his audiences around the globe.
Wendy “Motion” Braithwaite is a poet, writer, performer, radio show host and teacher. Her distinctive poetry speaks about racism, marginalization, unequal gender issues and motherhood. Using her diverse influences and music background, her performance is not only captivating but educational as well. Motion will be joined by some of Toronto’s top spoken word artists on stage at Nathan Phillips Square.
